Overview

The City of Anchorage adopted some 2009 ICC codes.

Residential Building Code

Alaska has yet to adopt a statewide residential code. Local laws will control.See PLRB, Alaska Building Codes for more information on state level codes.

Anchorage adopted the 2009 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Comments

The City deleted Chapters 12 through 42 of the 2009 IRC. The City adopted Appendices E and K, and amended Appendix  E extensively. 

 The City also uses its "Abatement of Dangerous Buildings" Code (See Chapter 23.70) for existing dangerous buildings. 

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

The City adopted the 2009 IEBC and amended the code in Chapter 23.65. The City also adopted Appendix A.

The City also adopted Appendices A, C, G and H, and amended Appendix H.

Existing Buildings

Refer to Chapter 34 of the adopted 2009 IBC; the City amended Section 3412.2 of that Chapter 34. The City also uses its "Abatement of Dangerous Buildings" Code (See Chapter 23.70) for existing dangerous buildings. 

The City adopted the 2009 IEBC and amended the code in Chapter 23.65. The City also adopted Appendix A.
